Third wave of coronavirus in Nepal | How dangerous can the 3rd wave be?

Covid-19 3rd wave(Delta plus)

Third wave of coronavirus

Now talking about Covid-19 we get to hear about a mutation named delta plus in the news.
The Indian and Nepalese government has declared the delta plus variant as a variant of concern. And some people believe that there will be a third wave in India and Nepal because of the delta plus variant.

The limited research conducted till now regarding it has found that the Delta plus variant is 60% more transmissible than the delta variant.
And it is highly resistant against some drugs. But the reality is that we don't honestly know much about it. WHO (world health organization) has not declared it a variant of concern yet.

Thought of experts in 3rd wave

Indian council of medical research (ICMR) says that it is too soon to tell if there will be the third wave because of Delta plus variant. But the experts believe that there is a very high chance that there will be the third wave.

The gap between the two waves is said to be generally 15- 16 weeks in an epidemic.

The Reuters poll of 40 medical experts was conducted with the conclusion that the experts said that a third wave is inevitable. There will definitely be a third wave. And they believe that the third wave will come around October of this year.
On the other hand, some experts said that the third wave may come in the next 6 to 8 weeks. If the people stop wearing masks and stop following social distancing.

But the experts like the chief of the center's Covid-19 working group in India Dr NK Arora, He says that the third wave of coronavirus will not happen before December of this year.

So, there are estimations from October to December by the doctor and experts.

Symptoms of 3rd wave

It has not been officially declared about symptoms of 3rd wave of coronavirus. On coming in contact with Covid-19 you may face similar symptoms of coronavirus like
  • Most common symptoms:
  1. fever
  2. dry cough
  3. tiredness
  4. Less common symptoms:
  5. aches and pains
  6. sore throat
  7. diarrhea
  8. conjunctivitis
  9. headache
  10. loss of taste or smells
  • Serious symptoms:
  1. difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  2. chest pain or pressure
  3. loss of speech or movement
The symptoms of the delta variant were a little different than the original Covid-19. Generally, the runny nose was not made out to be one of the major symptoms. But recently, a study has been conducted in the UK, when the people self-reported their symptoms. It was found that among the symptoms of delta variant, the runny nose features prominently in the list of symptoms.

It means the symptoms of the delta variant are very similar to the symptoms of the common cold.

How dangerous can the 3rd wave be?

The report of the tata institute of fundamental research has stated that it is very likely that the third wave will not be as severe as the second wave. It means 3rd wave may be less disastrous than that.

But does that mean we can relax because there's nothing to worry about? No, it doesn't mean that.
Because take an example of South Africa. The first wave in South Africa was due to the original coronavirus. And the second wave because of the beta variant that was found in South Africa. And now the third wave is due to the Delta variant. And the third and second wave seems equally dangerous. And they've spread so rapidly.

It is also seen in studies that the Delta variant is 60% more transmissible than the Alpha variant. And Alpha variant was 50% than the original stain found in Wuhan in 2019.
